Popcorn Ceiling Removal in Minnetonka

Typical cost in Minnetonka

  • One room ceiling, about 150 to 250 sq ft$1,700 – $4,300+
  • Several rooms or one floor, about 600 to 1,000 sq ft$5,000 – $13,500+
  • Whole house, about 1,500 to 2,000 sq ft of ceiling$9,500 – $24,000+

Wondering about that bumpy texture overhead? MDH names popcorn ceilings as one home material where asbestos may turn up, and only a lab can say whether yours has it. On a positive result, the room gets sealed off and the texture soaked, then scraped so that each bit falls into a bag. You are left with bare board for the painter or finisher.

We do ceiling work in Minnetonka, Deephaven and Excelsior, and the rules for it changed on July 1, 2021. That date ended the exemption for ceilings in single-family houses and two-to-four-unit buildings. Once friable texture is more than 6 square feet, only a licensed asbestos contractor may disturb it.

Ceiling jobs we handle

One room or a whole level

You can clear texture from a single bedroom or from every room on a level. Containment is sized to the rooms on your list.

Painted or water-stained texture

Paint and water stains both get noted at the site visit, and the wetting plan accounts for them.

Ceiling tiles and panels

Square ceiling tiles from decades past also appear on MDH’s list. Their sample is separate from the texture’s, and positive tiles are lowered intact whenever they allow it.

Preparing the room

An empty room makes for a shorter job.

What to move out

Clear the room as fully as you can. Sofas, beds, rugs, curtains and framed pictures all come out. We handle the ceiling fixtures, fans and smoke alarms, which get disconnected or wrapped before the plastic goes up.

Living around the closed room

Until clearance air results come back, the doorway stays sealed, so pick a room you can give up for the duration.

After the texture is gone

Our job ends at a bare, clean ceiling. Whether a painter or a drywall finisher picks it up from there, tell us early and we leave the surface the way that trade likes to find it.
