An addition, a new door or a larger window may disturb only one section. We remove what the project touches and leave the rest of the wall as it is.
Leave, repair or cover
Siding that is still sound can stay where it is, MDH says, with any broken shingle repaired carefully. New siding over the old is another option in some cases. Whether that is allowed depends on the local building code, so check with the city before planning on it.

We need a clear path along each wall for ladders and ground plastic. Move planters, grills and stored items away from the foundation.
Windows and doors
Glazing putty on older windows is another MDH-listed material. Replacing windows during the residing? Have the putty sampled in the same visit.
